Windows 8 will release on October 26

PC gamers, and everyone else who owns a PC: Microsoft’s announced Windows 8 will release on October 26. The announcement was made during the firm’s annual sales meeting today. While expected in October for quite some time, at least now you have an actual date.

I will be getting this, probably day 1. Don’t forget there’s a discount if you upgrade before Jan 2013.

#3 is right. After Microsofts efforts to destroy PC gaming with Vista, Im gonna give this a miss. Windows 7 works fine.

Is there any point if you don’t have a touch screen? The way they’re selling it makes it look like a touch screen skin on top of Windows 7 tbh.

I would urge against getting WIndows 8 because its an OS that will be used from PCs to smart phones along with the control scheme being based around touched screen.

Windows is not going to change they made the OS to work with all devices just like Apple is/has done. This is the way it will work from now on. You can accept it or stay on windows 7.

Windows 7 is fine for myself (and the 50-100 million PC gamers out there in the world) because Windows 8 doesn’t bring in a new DirectX nor does it bring in a new level of computational power (64 bit to 128 bit).

So essentially, this “new” Windows 8 is more than likely just like “Windows Millennium” *cringe*…. so Pass until I see a new drastically different type of kernel that isn’t going to cater to mobile devices that rely on energy efficiency.

It will be awhile until we go to 128bit. The graphic developers are releasing drivers that will only work with Windows 8 so you will be losing that. WIndows 8 will have a new DirectX just not this year or atleast at release of the OS.

Again WIndows, Apple are not going to change on using the same OS for Smartphones, tablets and PCs. Even engine developers are doing this it makes it easier for development.

Waiting till service pack 1 would be wise. Using the release preview, it seems to me that the designers were confused on how to handle traditional and metro UI. Metro seems to be forced unnecessarily at places. It does look beautiful though. Seems Microsoft got caught up with the Metro design since its inception in Zune player. Using Windows Phone 7, its clear they weighed more importance on the looks over functionality. Sometimes made me wonder which fool designed Windows Phone 7.
