RAGE screens aim for biggest ever record

Bethesda’s released what are surely the biggest ever pictures of a video game, putting out three mega-texture-based RAGE images at 25,600×9,080 each.
The shots were used to cover the Bethesda booth at E3 this year, and are available in wallpaper packs as well as undiluted TIFs.
The super-shots will cost you a minimum of 282Mb. Only you know if you have a “rig” capable of handling these bad boys.
RAGE is id’s next game, an FPS with driving stuff set in what is apparently some of the most amazing tech you’re going to see this gen.
It’ll release next year for PC, PS3 and 360 (on two DVDs).
Check out our chat with id’s Tim Willits at Bethesda’s pre-E3 event while you’re waiting for the shots to download.

Don’t know exactly how big the Crysis one from last year was but it was 1.15 Gigapixels…

Photoshop uses about 1.7GB of RAM to display one of the TIFs!

Too bad the download servers from the weblog are poor. Download doesn’t go over 50-100 kb/s

@2 A GigaPan image is not the same thing. GigaPan creates gigapixel images from loads of smaller images. The Rage image is one single mega-texture.

Don’t understand the reason to play ID Games on consoles. to each their own i guess.
But for me is a PC version and my 285 GTX is ready + editor is going to be fun.

If a 285GTX is still able to do the job when the game ships.

@8 It will able to do the job about 2 years without a problem.
I can even run RAGE with my previous 9800 GTX. It’s not a big leap in graphics in this generation.

@5 I know. It’s the only place that’s hosting it atm. There was a 1.15 Gigapixel image from Crysis last year though.

I installed Half-Life 2 a couple of days ago on my big laptop.
It actually runs alright when most of the settings are on medium. I think I might download Portal for it tonight.

@13 Especially news like “Kotick To Be New Best Friend Of The PC?”
No. Thank you.
Even my console have some love with FPS genre, but it’s really not the best genre for consoles and with games like Darkness, Uncharteds and e.t.c. i have no choice but to shut up sometimes.
