Report: Treyarch game is “Call of Duty: Vietnam”

VIETNAM2

VentureBeat’s named Treyarch’s next CoD game as “Call of Duty: Vietnam,” following heavy rumour the game’s to be set in the Asian country.

There are no details on the game at all, but it’s to be revealed on GTTV tonight.

If this isn’t set in Vietnam, something’s gone badly wrong here. A recent casting call essentially confirmed the setting, saying the main character was one Frank Barnes, a SOG special agent during the Vietnam War.

Previous UK trade rumours had put the game again in Vietnam, and pegged it for a November release.

It’s set in Vietnam, then. We’ll bring you the footage as soon as we have it.

About as long as it took Treyarch to come up with that title i’d say :D .

So does this mean that the Black-Ops rumour from some time ago, about the game having several different settings is false?

Other combat shooting games such as Battlefield Vietnam and Men of Valor have been set during the Vietnam war.

Combat shooting game, eh?

Even though it probably will have some portion of the game set in Vietnam, the article seems like guess work to me. Kind of like when gaming blogs make an educated guess, then the mainstream press report what the blogs guessed at as being fact, then the blogs quote the mainstream press and say “I told ya so!”

Anyway, I was under the impression that the game would be set across multiple eras…

What is a combat shooting game? Contrast recreational shooting game?

Hmmm – I’d guess that it wasn’t set just in Vietnam, given the way the COD games tend to follow multiple characters. That Spec Ops rumour sounded more like it to me, to be honest.
