Back of Bad Company 2 cover reveals 9.5/10 GI score

The back cover of EA DICE’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has revealed the shooter’s first review score: a 9.5 from Game Informer.
The magazine has apparently branded it, “The Best Tactical Multiplayer Action On The Planet.”
Eat your heart out, Infinity Ward.
Bad Company 2′s out on March 2 in the US and March 4 in the UK for PC, 360 and PS3.
A multiplayer beta for PC is ongoing, with a MP demo out on Xbox Live.
The taster is coming to PS3 this week in Europe.
Thanks, Respawn Action.

LOL what a piss take. They probably havent even played it. The beta thus far scores 3/10 in my book. I havent been this disappointed in a game since Spore!

I Especially registered to comment. I wholeheartly disagree with your remark Grimrita. XBOX edition is freakin’ brilliant and i haven’t played such a cool and fun game since ET Quake Wars. I can imagine though that the PC BETA is currently not that impressive. Please remember that it is a BETA which means you’re not playing the fully optimised, final build of the game.
What is it that you hate about the game?
I personally would rate it a 9/10. The sound, visuals and most of all, teamplay and squad mechanics are the best on the market

@Grimrita
Sometimes what you have are opinions, but sometimes what you are is just plain wrong. And Grimrita, you are very, very wrong.
If you genuinely think that this is a 3/10 game, then I suggest you play more games to gather some perspective on what quality means, and how to benchmark it.

9.5? I lol’d
This game sucks :>
BF43 is way better than that although it’s “just” an arcade game.

@JorisBos: I’m thinking your sense of fun is wonky…ET: Quake Wars was fun?!

I thought Grimrita was just taking the piss, no?
Like the people who were “OMGZ KILZONE IS TEH BEST GAME EVAR. I NO I PLAYED TEH DEMO. ITS WAY BETTER 7″ when Edge gave Killzone 2 a 7.
Maybe I just expect more from VG247 commenters

Well let me respond.
Why does it rate 3/10 right now? (And yes I am on the PC beta)
Graphics – shocking! Although the graphics arent my main reason because I know it is beta but I dont expect a huge upgrade between now and launch. Animations are awful, its also hard to point out who is the enemy.
I think also it also a reason why there is so much lag on the servers sometimes because a) there is so much going on (destructable environments)b) the servers cant handle it
The old favourite – ‘lack of prone’
I’ve read the rubbish thrown around by DICE on this and its bollocks! Hey Soldiers hardly jump in combat, why not just remove that as well?
I liked being Recon in BF2142 and now its a pointless waste of space in BC2. Who has heard of a Sniper standing to shoot? What crap.
Immersion factor. Bad Company 2 is not immersive. I am not excited or truly “into” the game when I play it like I was with BF2142 for example. It’s boring. Weapons aren’t intimidating, you can just wander around and fight with out having to really keep your head down *maybe thats why we don’t have prone. It’s not needed?* In all the only thing I see that BC 2 has over the older BF games is the destructible environments – which add to the lag on the servers!
There are a whole host of posts I can point to on the EA forums that I agree with. (http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/875386-wow-dice.html being one).
Clearly, despite what DICE have said, this really is a console game with console graphics and is nothing more than an average shooter.
And to NGCes26294BIV – I have played many games thank you and my previous benchmark for this would be BF2142 – which I loved and have spent thousands of hours playing.
Maybe my standards are just too high but recently, games seem to be ‘thrown together’ with many old features being removed to either save cost or because the developer is simply just too lazy to add them

in the demo i did have alot of trouble figuring out who i should have been shooting at, to the point where i’d be unloading whole clips into a team mates face whilst circle strafe jumping, and all i get for my troubles is a condescending look and a friendly knife slash.
and i hate how the grenades do next to no damage to people
but i liked the level up screen

i’m currently in the pc beta and i have to say that this is the BEST BETA EVER! sure it has a few bugs and the frame rate is shit (for now) but except that, it is just so amazing. been playing the same mod of the same map over and over and over again for at least 6 hours/day. so if the beta is this good, GI is wrong for giving it only a 9.5. it deserves AT LEAST a 10. and if anyone doesn’t agree with me they either suck at shooters or just don’t like team play. either way, fu f**s! that’s all. cheers.

So a game that removes established features that made the original a great, should get a higher score?

ofc, if those features were flawed.
