Mad Catz has secured a “multi-year” agreement to make Sonic-branded peripherals in the US.

“Sonic is one of the videogame industry’s most popular and enduring characters and we are thrilled to initiate this relationship with Sega to create Sonic-branded videogame accessories,” said Mad Catz mega-chief, Darren Richardson.

Mad Catz Enters into Multi-Year Agreement with Sega for North American Rights to Sonic the Hedgehog Videogame Accessories

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sep. 21, 2009– Mad Catz Interactive, Inc. (AMEX/TSX: MCZ), a leading third-party interactive entertainment accessory provider, announced today that it has secured a license from Sega® of America, Inc., a leading developer and publisher of videogames, to produce branded videogame accessories based on the Sonic the Hedgehog intellectual property.     You know it makes sense.

    But seriously though, what about sonic requires a special control pad?

    Are they just going to rip out everything but the D-pad and have one massive button on the other side that says ‘jump’.

    Maybe they could go one further and just release something that looks like a wii nunchuck less the c button.
