The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the first Zelda game to get DLC expansions from Nintendo, and the first of these was called "The Master Trials." In this complete Zelda Breath of the Wild Master Trials guide, we'll be providing you with a complete overview to the DLC pack, including how to find all Master Trials outfits in Breath of the Wild, so you can track them all down as easily as possible.
Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC - Find all the the Secret DLC Items
There will be a total of eight new chests scattered throughout Hyrule after you’ve bought the Master Trials DLC for Breath of the Wild, all of which will contain outfits for Link based on past The Legend of Zelda titles. These include the titular Mojara's Mask, Midna's Helmet, and Phantom Armor. Breath of the Wild Master Mode Difficulty
In Master Mode, all enemies fought throughout Hyrule will gradually regain health, and are also powered up by one 'level'. This means that Red Bokoblins will now be Blue, and all enemies will now have higher levels than before.
Korok Mask Location - How to Find the Korok Mask in Master Trials DLC
A single chest containing the Korok mask can be found somewhere in Hyrule, and the mask will shake whenever Link is near a Korok. As there are 900 Korok locations to be found in Breath of the Wild, this could come in handy.
Once you’ve read the Super Rumor Mill Vol. 1 at the Woodland Stable, head to the Lost Woods, situated just north of Hyrule Castle (just in case you hadn’t already found it and the Great Deku Tree). Once you’ve entered The Lost Woods from the Woodland Tower, continue dead ahead until you come to two lit pillars with a torch nearby.
Pick up the torch, light it, and follow the direction that the embers flow from your torch. Keep looking inside the mouths of every twisted tree you pass, and you’ll come across one with ‘EX’ written on it. Use your Magnesis rune to pull out the chest from within the tree, and the Korok Mask is all yours.
Tingle Outfit Location - How to Find the Tingle Outfit in Master Trials DLC
Like the Dark Armor outfit that you can already unlock in Breath of the Wild, Tingle's Outfit will provide the 'night speed up' boost when all three pieces of the outfit are equipped.
Breath of the Wild designer Mari Shirakawa may have been creeped out at the sight of the Tingle Outfit, but if you’d like to see your Link in this strange garb, then read on. The Tingle Outfit is split up into three locations, comprised of the Tingle Hood, Tingle Tingle Shirt, and Tingle Tights.
Tingle Hood is found south of the Hyrule Garrison Ruins, and northwest of Lake Kolomo at the Exchange Ruins. In the southern area of the Exchange Ruins you’ll find a chest buried in the ground. Pull it out using the Magnesis rune to obtain the Tingle Hood.
Tingle Shirt is located in Castle Town Prison (what was Tingle doing there?!), immediately west of Hyrule Castle. The chest that Tingle’s Shirt is in is buried in the ground just east of the road, in the mid section of the island.
Tingle’s Tights are found in Mabe Village Ruins, just south and slightly east of Hyrule Castle, and directly southeast of the Sacred Ground Ruins. Find the dead Guardian in the water, and pull the chest out from under it using the Magnesis rune, to obtain the final piece of the Tingle Outfit.
Majora's Mask Location - How to Find Majora's Mask in Master Trials DLC
In Breath of the Wild, Majora's Mask has the power to make weaker monsters like Bokoblins think that Link is part of their group, as they'll actually huddle around him and welcome the player into their hideouts.
To find the legendary Majora's Mask in the Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC, head to Lake Kolomo, found north of the Great Plateau Tower. Head here and you'll find the Kolomo Garrison Ruins.
A treasure chest is buried to the side of the main building. Simply use Magnesis to pull the chest out of the ground and claim Majora's Mask.
Midna's Helmet Location - How to Find Midna's Helmet in Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC
Midna's Helmet won't offer Link a combat partner, like the character did in previous iterations of Zelda games, but it will add the 'Guardian Resist Up' bonus for Link, protecting him from Guardians while exploring Hyrule.
First, head to the Outpost Ruins, directly east of The Great Plateau, and read Misko’s EX Journal to get the next clue for where to find Midna’s Helmet. Now you want to head quite a ways northwest of the Outpost Ruins, to the Sage Temple Ruins on the Regencia River, just east of Satori Mountain.
Go to the very northwest part of the Sage Temple Ruins, and look around using the Magnesis rune to see a chest buried in the ground. Lift the chest out of the ground using the Magnesis Rune, and Midna’s Helmet will be all yours.
Phantom Armor Location - How to Find the Phantom Armor Set in Zelda Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC
Wearing the Phantom Armor in Breath of the Wild will give Link a nice attack boost, allowing him to carve through certain enemies with ease, which will definitely help you out in the Master Mode.
The Phantom Armor Set is comprised of three items: the Helmet, Armor, and Greaves. Starting with the Phantom Helmet, you’ll find this in the Colosseum Ruins, directly east of Outskirt Stable, with a Savage Lynel patrolling the area.
Deal with the Lynel, or sneak around it to claim the chest partially buried in the ground that holds the Phantom Helmet.
As for the Phantom Armor, this piece is found in thee Sacred Ground Ruins, directly south of Hyrule Castle, where the Subdued Ceremony Memory took place.
There should be two Guardians patrolling the area, but all you need to do is pull the submerged chest from out of the water surrounding the main area with the Magnesis rune, to claim the Phantom Armor.
Finally, the Phantom Greaves are found in the Hyrule Garrison Ruins, which are just slightly southeast from the Central Tower.
Go to the area of the Ruins that is furthest away from the Central Tower, and by a ruined cart you’ll find a chest containing the Phantom Greaves, completing the Phantom Armor Set.
Travel Medallion Location - How to Get the Travel Medallion in Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC
Once you’ve been to South Akkala Stable to read through the Super Rumor Mill Vol. 2, head to the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, in the very northeast of Hyrule. From here, look out from the edge of the cliff to see a giant labyrinth in the sea. Use your paraglider to get to the maze, and climb up to the top of the structure, so you’re at the same level as the flying Guardians.
Staying at this level, run to the higher level near the back of the maze, and drop down to the left of it, into a path with a ladder. Climb the ladder, taking the path all the way round and up until you come to Tu Ka’loh Shrine. Enter the Shrine, grab the Spirit Orb, and come back out, where you’ll see a hole straight ahead of you with a gust of wind blowing up through it.
Drop down this hole, until Link is in a hall filled with seemingly-dead Guardians. However, the Guardians aren’t quite as dead as they seem, so run straight to the south side of the hall, dodging Guardian beams to open the chest at the end of the hall, obtaining the Travel Medallion. All done, now you just need to get out the way you came in, and you’re finally free.
The Travel Medallion found in the Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC allows Link to place down a fast travel point at any location on the map.
How to Access Zelda: Breath of the Wild Master Trials DLC - Master Mode and Trial of the Sword
The Master Trials DLC Pack 1 is now out worldwide for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and in this section we'll detail exactly how to access everything that The Master Trials offers for Link to conquer.
Firstly, the difficult Master Mode can be accessed instantly from the title screen, as it requires you to start an entirely new save file. Be aware that there's only one autosave slot available in Master Mode, so you'll need to be extra careful when venturing out into Hyrule with Link.
Flipping back over to your regular Breath of the Wild playthrough, upon loading up your save you'll instantly be presented with a bunch of new quests in the 'side quests' menu in the Skeikah Slate. All new DLC quests will be marked with 'EX' in the title, denoting that they're DLC quests, and chief among these is The Trial of the Sword quest.
The Trial of the Sword quest has Link heading to the Great Deku Tree, and being challenged with a 45-level gauntlet of increasingly difficult enemies. On top of this, you'll be starting with no equipment whatsoever, just like you did on Eventide Island.
Finally, all the new items listed above each have their own treasure hunt quest, which Link must undertake in order to unlock items like the Korok Mask and Midna's Helmet.
