Yes, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has microtransactions

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has microtransactions, but thankfully they're not as outrageous as initial reports suggested.

revelations 2 raid mode 5

The subject of Resident Evil: Revelations 2's microtransactions arose earlier today with reports filtering out of a European press event that you'll be able to pay to keep playing after your character dies.

The ramifications of this are pretty painful, but Capcom has issued a statement to Kotaku explaining how exactly these purchases work. For starters, there are no micro-transactions within the main campaign - this is all about the new Raid mode only.

In Raid mode, players can use “life crystals” to respawn after death.

"Blue life crystals can be earned through playing daily missions and red life crystals can be bought," Capcom explained.

"The two crystals act the same, but there’s an option to buy if players run out of blue (earned) crystals or don’t want to spend the time earning them. If players have both blue and red crystals, the game will prioritise the blue crystals over the red ones."

So no, you won't find yourself asked to pony up to continue playing after a cheap death in story mode. Let's all put our paranoid speculation to bed.
