Uncharted movie will start shooting early 2015

Uncharted director Seth Gordon has said the film will begin shooting during early 2015 now that the script is in "a really good place."

Speaking with entertainment site zap2it (via CVG), the King of Kong and Horrible Bosses director said the production still needs a lead actor to play Nathan Drake, and it's not going to be Mark Wahlberg.

"I want it to be a great actor," Gordon said. "That's number one, and then if it's someone who has an actual jaw, that's even better. The game is so well done that you need it to live up to that. There's no way we'd do the inverse of that where it's somebody famous who can't [act]."

Gordon said the script will "honor the mythology of the game [through the] most interesting stuff from the first one and build from there," adding the movie will contain "some stuff that isn't in the game."

"I love the complexity and frankly the sophistication of the storytelling in the game, and we aspire to that -- but don't want to tell the exact same story, of course -- so something that doesn't break the rules of what it did but expands," he elaborated.

"Because I feel like the people who play the games and know them well don't want to just see the same story told. You want extra shades."

Director David O. Russell was originally attached to the Uncharted film in 2011, but left the project as did his replacement, Limitless director Neil Burger, in August 2012 who was pegged to both write and direct.

Sony announced Uncharted 4: A Thief's End during its E3 press conference in June, and it's slated for a 2015 release on PlayStation 4.
