EA fixing The Sims 4's overzealous rude words filter blocking gay names

The Sims 4 will be patched soon in order to allow the use of “forbidden” phrases such as gay, queer, lesbian and homosexual.

According to EA Maxis, the issue revolves around a overzealous filter on rude words.

Players have noted since release homosexual references in the game’s Gallery were met with the error message “contains a forbidden word” when trying to upload characters to the online sharing hub.

However, EA says The Sims "has a long history of supporting stories that players want to tell," which is "irrespective of gender preference," it told Kotaku.

“The Gallery uses an automated filtering program that filters out certain words, including some of the ones you mentioned. We are aware of [and] have been working on a fix, which will be out soon.”

EA is staunch support of LBGT and is constantly on the list of “Best Places to Work" as noted by the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index report.
