Prison Architect spontaneously adds multiplayer beta to game
Prison Architect is testing out a co-op multiplayer mode that lets you manage a prison with friends.
Ever since its 2012 early access launch, Prison Architect has been a solo game of designing and managing a private penitentiary. Now it seems the folks at Introversion Software have decided this might be a lonely job, so the studio will experiment with co-op gameplay.
As reported by Eurogamer, a surprise multiplayer mode was added to the game earlier today. It allows you to invite several up to seven friends to a shared server and work together to manage prison operations. While certain standard single-player features don't quite work in a co-op setting, the embedded video does suggest the concept has potential.
That said, multiplayer isn't currently an official Prison Architect feature. It only exists in a beta state that can be accessed from the PC version's Steam options. That said, Introversion has lots of ideas for expanding multiplayer and is seeking player feedback. "This is really for the brave to go in at the moment," Introversion co-founder Mark Morris said in the video.
Prison Architect is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. A Nintendo Switch edition is underway, and will launch on October 6.
