Mega Man Legends spiritual successor Red Ash to be revealed this weekend
Mighty No. 9 developer Comcept has unveiled its latest spin on Keiji Inafune's legacy.
Red Ash is being hailed by the Capcom fan community as a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends, a series that seems to have been shelved for good.
The trailer above contains multiple references to the word "legends" and features concept art reminiscent of the Mega Man Legends series, but the title itself is also a clue. As pointed out by Redditors, the Japanese title for Mega Man Legends is Rockman Dash. Red Ash can be broken down into "re dash" - another go at the Dash formula.
According to the trailer, Studio 4°C is collaborating with Comcept on the project. The team is best known for providing animation to projects like Toukiden, Asura's Wrath and Catherine.
At present we have no further details or information regarding the project, which looks to be in the very early stages. Gematsu reports a full reveal is expected on July 4.
Comcept is the studio behind Mighty No. 9 (a spiritual successor to vanilla Mega Man) and Azure Striker Gunvolt, as well as the upcoming ReCore. It is known for its collaborations with other teams, and was founded by Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune after he left Capcom.
The Mega Man Legends series is a bit of a sore point for fans. After a long, long wait between releases, Capcom finally announced Mega Man Legends 3 was happening - in collaboration with fans. It then cancelled the project, some months after Inafune left the publisher. Inafune offered to pick Mega Man Legends 3 back up, working as a freelancer, but Capcom declined his offer - and shortly afterwards, he moved on to Mighty No. 9.
