MechWarrior Online fans pony up $100K for cancer charity

Sales of MechWarrior Online's limited edition Sarah's Jenner have garnered $100,000 for charity, in honour of a young fan who passed away earlier this year.

Piranha Games creative director Bryan Ekman said fan support had far outweighed the developer's expectations.

"When we first had the idea for Sarah's Jenner we thought that ten thousand dollars would be a number we could all be proud of," he told GameInformer.

"The response from the MechWarrior community and from the games industry at large has been overwhelming. We can't thank everyone enough for unifying in this effort to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society and cancer research."

Ron Kuehl of the Canadian Cancer Society said the charity is "so grateful and amazed" by the outpouring of support in Sarah's name

"It's truly heartening that something positive is coming from such a tragic situation," he said.

All proceeds from sales of the mech go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, but you only have till August 20 to take advantage of the unique chassis before it goes off the market forever.
