God of War: Ascension had a budget somewhere near $50 million - report

God of War: Ascension may have cost as much to make as Modern Warfare 2, a modern touchstone of big budget development - or even more.

Speaking to 20 Minuten, via Google Translate, lead producer Whitney Wade has said that Kratos's latest adventure had "a mid double-digit million amount".

A nice round ballpark figure, then, would be $50 million.

That's a pretty big number but not that unbelievable; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is believed to have cost between $40 and $50 million, with later entries probably even more expensive.

That's without the marketing budget, which can sometimes cost as much as development - or even more in the case of Modern Warfare 2's $200 million.

The PlayStation 3 exclusive came in fourth on the NPD's March charts and is believed to have under-performed. It did better in the UK, it seems.
