Eurogamer Expo 2010 - what to expect and what to play

egexpo

[Going to Eurogamer Expo? Of course you are. Here, Keza MacDonald brings you the main highlights of the show and what games from the remainder of 2010 and 2011 you should be playing this weekend at Earls Court.]

Heading to London for the Eurogamer Expo this weekend? Or wondering what you’re missing? Here’s a day-by-day rundown of who and what will be at the show. Highlights: Gears of War 3, a Peter Molyneux presentation that’s sure to be eminently quotable, LittleBigPlanet 2, Killzone 3, Dragon Age II and squillions more!

The EG Expo has been fattening itself up. Three years ago it was an ambitious but comparatively miniature event at the Truman Brewery; now it’s filling Earl’s Court for three days. There are about 40 big upcoming and recent releases on the show floor, there’s an Indie Games Arcade showing off upcoming talent, there are plenty of developer sessions from terribly famous and important people, and there’s a GamesIndustry.biz career fair to peruse if you’re looking to claw your way into the business of making games.

ON THE FLOOR:

HIGHLIGHTS

Brink

Splash Damage’s brave and potentially brilliant splicing of customisable online FPS and action-game genes impressed me back at Gamescom, and it’ll be shown off at the Expo in an ideal multiplayer habitat.

Dead Space 2

Visceral Games knows how to scare you shitless. The first Dead Space proved that. The sequel, set in a less restrictive, more varied, more destructible environment, looks even better.

Dragon Age 2

What do we know about Dragon Age 2? Practically nothing, except that it’s got a hell of a trailer and more money behind it than the Pope’s state visit. This’ll be our first chance to play it.

Fallout: New Vegas

I reckon New Vegas is a grittier, harsher game than Fallout 3, with more challenging and ambiguous moral decisions to be made. Even if 3 left you a little cold, this is worth getting excited about.

Fable 3

Will Molyneux finally come good on all his promises? Come judge for yourself.

Gears of War 3

Need we say more? Gears 3 will be playable in Beast mode, the new multiplayer addition. Expect big queues for this one.

ALSO VERY EXCITING

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
It’s got a good pedigree

Bulletstorm
Foul-mouthed, kick-ass shooter

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Inspired series reboot with touches of Shadow of the Colossus and Uncharted

Crysis 2
Gape at how pretty Crytek’s New York is, then shoot it up

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge
Fantasy third-person shooting: think Gears of Warcraft

inFamous 2
Interesting sequel

Killzone 3
More shooting – but you guys like that, right?

LittleBigPlanet 2
Breathtakingly inventive. Can’t wait to see what people can create in ten minutes.

Gran Turismo 5
Play it now, before it’s delayed another year.

Eurogamer Expo 2010 begins Friday, October 1 until Sunday, October 3. If you were planning to go, tickets for all three days are now sold out. Unlucky.
