DC Universe Online update 31 to prepare for PS4 launch, improve graphics

DC Universe Online is getting a significant makeover in its next major update to prepare for the PlayStation 4 launch, but also bring improvements to other platforms.

In a blog post, executive producer Larry Liberty said the main purpose of Game Update 31 is to prepare for launch on the PS4, but also improve the game on all platforms, most notably in the form of a "sweeping, game-wide graphical upgrade, a massive design effort to polish and remaster the core leveling game, and a host of technical work".

Detail on textures will be increased throughout the game, and areas like Centennial Park in Metropolis and Robinson Park in Gotham City have been rebuilt to match ongoing story content. Sony Online Entertainment has also "corrected and improved hundreds of details in the environmental geometry throughout the game".

In addition, SoE has implemented "numerous design improvements, polish, and a remastering of the core leveling game", which players should find most noticeable when bringing new characters to level 30. Changes include things like content turning up more naturally, enemies behaving more consistently throughout the game, Mentor-specific content being available to everyone, and lots of extra content available as soon as Lairs are.

The update arrive son the PC test server this weekm and launches on both PC and PS3 in early November. DCUO is coming to PS4 during its launch window; the console arrives in November.
