Art of Video Games voting open

The Smithsonian's Art of Video Games exhibit has an incredible body of work to choose from, and the curators are seeking your assistance in doing just that. Voting has opened on the selection of just 240 representative titles from four decades of gaming goodness, with only eighty earmarked for inclusion in the final exhibit.

The Art of Video games website is currently suffering severe slowdown as gamers in appropriate timezones rush the servers to give their opinion on Fallout versus Baldur's Gate, and Yar's revenge versus Space Invaders.

Voting is divided into five eras, and within each, a less-than-obvious navigation system allows you to move between genres to cast multiple votes.

In the most recent era's category, a unique left-hand menu allows visitors to cast votes for each platform.

The website requests voters make their choices based on the artistic value of each title, rather than fun alone. Registration is required.

The Art of Video Games opens at The Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC, on March 16, 2012.
