Steel Battalion reboot lacks control of the original
When the original Steel Battalion launched for Xbox, back in 2002, it came with a comically over-sized, purpose-built controller which is now something of a collector’s piece. Nearly ten years later, the game has taken a more minimal approach, in a Kinect-enabled reboot that does away with controllers completely.

Assassin’s Creed II TGS detail explosion – round-up
A ton of Assassin’s Creed II previews went live last week from TGS. We didn’t cover them at the time, because we were up to our ears in Japanese news. Want to test the new Xbox update? Just fill out a survey

A new Xbox 360 system update is on the way, but you don’t have to wait until it launches to try it. Major Nelson has the details on this year’s System Update Preview Program.
Just head over to Microsoft Connect, fill out a survey, and you’re (probably) in!
Bear in mind, however, that Gold users get priority over the penny-pinching Silver caste, so don’t be too heartbroken if you’re not selected for the test.
Well, what are you waiting for? Get to it, before the good seats are taken.

MS to refuse access to Live for NXE preview cheaters, update delivered before November 1
Microsoft’s email to those lucky enough to get on the early access program for New Xbox Experience were told by email today that the update will be available “on or before” November 1.
Also included in the mail is a warning that any Xbox that attempts to connect to the program and hasn’t been specifically registered for the preview will be blocked from accessing Xbox Live until NXE launches on November 19.
Here’s the message in full:
Congratulations on your acceptance into the Xbox 360 Fall Flash Preview Program. As a member of this program you will be receiving the New Xbox Experience (NXE) System Update.
The update will be made available to you on or before November 1st. In order to receive the update, log in to Xbox LIVE with the Preview Program registered console.
In participation with this program, you should not move your storage device (hard drive, or memory unit if you do not have a hard drive) to any other console as it will also update that console. If an unregistered console is updated with the NXE update, that console will not be able to connect to Xbox LIVE until the NXE has been officially released on November 19th.
Please remember that your participation in the Public Preview Program is subject to the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use.
We thank you for your participation and hope that you enjoy the New Xbox Experience.
See you online,
The Xbox 360 team
Many thanks to revolting!
