Destiny’s bonus PS4 & PS3 content staying exclusive until Fall 2015 – report

Friday, 20th June 2014 08:26 GMT By Dave Cook

Destiny developer Bungie has been cuddling up to Sony for the release of its online shooter, giving PlayStation owners a string of exclusive content not found on Xbox 360 or Xbox One. A listing by Amazon suggests that some of the content is staying exclusive until Fall 2015.

Some new Destiny PS4 footage leaked this week, but was promptly killed off. However, we managed to write up the whole thing before that happened.

Now, this Amazon listing for the PS4 version of Destiny come with a blurb that reads:

For PlayStation 4 owners, Destiny offers Early access to the Beta on July 17th, and a free 30-Day PlayStation Plus Trial.

Exclusive content for PlayStation 4 owners includes the Exodus Blue Competitive Multiplayer Map, Dust Palace Strike, Weapons, Ships and Gear that will only be on PlayStation until at least Fall 2015.

If accurate, this marks a long period of console exclusivity for the bonus content. We’ve shot Activision an email to see if they have anything else to add.

Stay tuned.

How much of your respect they lost for not allowing you to get a certain set of imaginary clothes in game?

As a huge Halo fan I’m slightly hurt by all of this love Bungie are giving Playstation. Would Bungie be this popular if not for Xbox players?

Even Microsoft hasn’t gone that far! And that’s saying something. But a deal is a deal, business is business. Deal with it.

@Mortal Mad Matt Don’t play the loyality card, Bungie and Activision (Sony) is in for the money not for love or respect internet warriors such as ourselves. Nothing more, nothing less.

Would Xbox be this popular if not for Bungie?

Developers go where the money is. Simple business, same reason Insomniac is making Sunset Overdrive for XBOne. Sony fans are mad about that. Just be happy you get to play Destiny at all and it isn’t totally a PS4 exclusive.

bungie going multiplat is actually one of the coolest things that happened lately. it´s just great for everyone really. same with insomniac.

i can understand that some feelings are hurt though, especially regarding bungie because halo as a franchise has built up a big, dedicated community over the years. some just don´t want to buy 2 consoles and they will more likely stick with xbox for halo despite bungies departure from the franchise because they now have become fans of the series – a series made by bungie, exclusive for the xbox.

their online friends play on xbox, they have made a account, shared stats – over years etc. they want to keep playing on the same system and want to play destiny there as well of course…these timed exclusive deals are just a slap in the face for these guys. it´s just not cool but at the same time they -unfortunately- make a lot of sense because they make exactly these people described above, the most dedicating players, thinking about buying the other platform – it is smart business thinking but at the same time, imo, it disrespects your most dedicated fans a bit too much indeed.

it´s like that everywhere though. as soon as you have subscribed for a phone deal – the new, better deals are not for you anymore. they are for the new customers, to lure them in.

it should be the opposite, being loyal and a long time paying customer should be rewarded but that´s just not the case most of the time.

…but then, yeah, everyone can play and enjoy destiny on xbox too, that AND halo so it´not all bad. the exclusive content…it´s nice to have that stuff early but it´s far from a dealbreaker if you have not really.

They need to start clarifying the term exclusive now. They should have said “timed exclusive”.

It’s been like that for awhile now. Microsoft’s been doing it heavy for years. Makes sense that Sony would see how successful it has been for them and follow suit. It’s annoying for us, but a smart console/software selling business decision. Use the announcement to throw around the “exclusive” word and then educate us on the specifics right before launch. Lol.

And honestly is timed exclusive bonuses like this that big a deal, I mean we do get a strike mission, but it’s only one strike mission…. so 40 minutes max of gameplay?

What grinds my gears is timed exclusive DLC. When Microsoft announced DLC first for Dragons Age at E3 I was so mad! Haha, I just hope its not the dreaded 3 month gap. 1 month I can take, otherwise I end up trading the game in for maximum credit.

@Capt.N00P Bungie introduced Halo on stage with Steve Jobs way before people were playing it on the Xbox. Like all companies they couldn’t give a crap about you the customer, they go where the $/£/€ is.
And of course, Microsoft have always been about throwing money around, buying (and often destroying) companies, buying timed exclusives/DLC, selling things at a loss etc. All gaming machines in the past had their first party exclusives but it’s never been as messy and ugly since Microsoft entered to console space.

@retronaut your are right, but that never gets release their nor much fans. creating a fan base over 10 then first time they go multi-plat; they destroy most what they built over the years. they ignored their xbox fans the whole development process. its not about some content (i have a PlayStation platform no x1 yet) they get a year after or never. Its about a freedom where to buy, enough dictators in real life.
BF4 killed my passion in FPS games, lost my interest in this game for other reasons long time ago (blame Activision, they did it in other games).

Waah! Bungie, we your fans, why you hurt us so bad?

Go suck a thumb you big fucking babies. Its starter gear in a MMO, useful for oh? 1-2 character levels?

P.S The Devs didn’t make this deal btw, the publisher did. So at least spit your dummys in the right direction.

That is a very long time. Much longer than PS3 players had to wait for COD content. Are they trying to punish us for the years of COD content or something?

Bungie hasn’t forgotten that we Xbox gamers made them filthy stinking rich have they? What gives?

Not impressed by this game. Very boring after about 2 matches. The exclusive stuff is funny. PS exclusive: ships guns and crap. Feels to much like hal.s

@Mortal Mad Matt Now you know how us Mac gamers felt back in the ’90s when Halo shifted from Mac OS to Xbox. Marathon and Myth defibned</b? gaming on the Mac from '93 – '98.

  20. jmg24bad

PlayStation users should be happy about this, this could also mean any dlc that comes out could possibly be exclusive to ps4 for a while. And seeing as people hated on this game before they played alpha (i was one of the biggest haters that got converted lol!) this game will be one of the biggest games coming out this year. I cant wait

    @Mortal Mad Matt

as an owner of both consoles, it does not truly bother me over the amount of **** sucking bungie is doing with Sony, however the thing that gets me is bungie is not just screwing Microsoft but bungie is leaving their long term fans hanging out to dry at the same time. Bungie would not be who they are today without these xbox users loyalty and money. Like I said I own both so Im not affected but I feel the pain. It’s like if Naughty dog gave sony the middle finger and started sucking MS ****, they wouldnt just be hurting sony but also the millions of PS players.

Exclusivity for items that you’ll toss aside 10 minutes after you find more legendary ones. The PVP map is really the only thing I can see people being mad over.

Microsoft has held exclusivity on entire games for almost a year before.

    #22 5 months ago
  23. Arcnail

People need to cut this loyalty crap. Bungie spent 500 million on this game, they probably want it back, so the exclusive content went to the highest bidder.

    #23 5 months ago
  24. Gheritt White

@bobnice You’ll get over it, I’m sure. I mean, I had to trade my hopes of a further Marathon sequel for Halo and then Destiny, so I’m afraid your impotent tears are paltry by comparison.

@zombizmo Right, that. Not really similar to this though, is it?

Bungie surely spends nothing but their capacity for work. They couldn’t afford a project with such a budget. The money comes from ActiBlizz.
