Black Ops: Declassified – Treyarch’s only hand in development was “to ensure accuracies within the fiction”

Friday, 7th September 2012 16:10 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Black Ops – Declassified does not have Call of Duty mainstays Treyarch or Infinity Ward involved with the gameplay development of the Vita shooter, Treyarch has stated.

Speaking with CVG, John Rafacz, communications manager at Treyarch, said the studio has “not been involved with the Vita version,” and Activision has stated the only involvement from the studio was on a consultant basis for the storyline.

“Activision is the publisher, but we also have a partnership with Sony to bundle Declassified with the PlayStation Vita,” said an Activision spokesperson.

The publisher added that since the story in Declassified takes place between Black Ops and Black Ops 2 Treyarch was only consulted “to ensure accuracies within the fiction”.

Call of Duty: Black Ops – Declassified releases in November.

Oh, you mean Black Ops: Burning Skies. All this time, ‘data reuse’ has been a good thing, until now. I understand that reuse saves time and money, but jeez, this is data over-reuse.

You know they don’t give a damn if the only thing Treyarch cares about in this game is the story

#2 So you are saying this should be called COD : Black Flops then.

p.s and that sound like an washing his hands statement, just in case it will end up bad IMHO

This game is literally developed by sony with acti only providing COD name, nothing else. Looks like a train wreck for now with even the dev failing to show any marked improvements over the previous games.

I saw multiplayer gameplay at gamescom, one of the worst games I saw at the show, and I love the original, it’s – in my humble opinion the best CoD multiplayer to date.

Pissed me right off after I saw it, so it did >:(

#6 Dave You know i do have prefer if this game, or other FPS for that matter on vita, that is heavy on the multiplayer aspect, is/are done well, just in order to see if the consolization of this type of experience really works and / or traslates well on a handheld, because iam not sold on that idea, yet.

@7 I reviewed Resistance Burning Skies back at NowGamer and gave it 4/10. This looks like an asset swap. Disgusting visuals, shit touch grenade mechanic, same textures and assets as original Black Ops, maps that basically copy original Black Ops maps (Shattered is a cross section of Cracked, Rocket is a cross section of Launch etc).

It’s just a lazy hatchet job. The series and PS Vita deserves more.

#8 i know is sad because the tech is there, is a shame really, but iam more concern with how a multiplayer FPS game, that is great for consoles, will work on a handheld, with the very distintic characteristics between the two devices, thats what i want to find out, and for that theres must be a well done game where the reviewer will focus on that and not on the faults of the game, just in the experience of the game on a handheld.

@5 Sony is a publisher too, not devs as a whole. IIRC long ago that someone stated this CoD is decent looking as ever, fcking liar.”Activision has stated the only involvement from the studio was on a consultant basis for the storyline.” seems like Sony made another wrong move, Id like to see Kevin Butler’s reaction when he saw the trailer. And WTF is wrong with ppl from Nihilistic ???

Nihilistic is a sony second party studio, so I am sure most of the dev cost is handled by sony while acti is cleaning ear wax.
