Activision sells 18 million Black Ops map packs
Black Ops map packs are selling through the roof. Also, surprise of the century, Activision is raking in money by the truckload.

Activision Blizzard reported today that they raked in a whopping 1.7 billion USD during the 12 month period ending in June 2011, representing a 22 per cent increase over the year before according to Gamasutra.
Black Ops and Blizzard’s brands continue to generate enormous income, as usual. One of the more notable successes of Acti-Blizz’s report is that the Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack sold an incredible 18 million copies at $15 a piece.
They triumphantly touted that the average Black Ops customer is now paying $76 per purchase (game + DLC).

I really wonder why people just keep buying the games. They all have so little changes and it has become a game that releases every year now, what a joke. People just keep falling for it, and these DLC maps for 1200 points each time..pathetic.

Well, that’s unfortunate. Now they’ve realized it’s possible to squeeze even more money out of even more people.

18 million over 3 map packs? Sounds like room for improvement. I pretty much left Blops to die after a few weeks.
@4 OH MY GOD, they’ve attained DLC technology!!! DOOMED!

People buy map packs because it enhances the multiplayer/zombie longevity/experience! But does it really matter? You haters will always moan and hate on this stuff no matter what. I guess it’s the trend to hate on popular things.

@10 It did contain the moon map, and it was free for people who already bought the hardened edition, containing the WaW zombie maps.
Agreed though, it’s an overly expensive repackage and resale.
On the other hand, EA have been doing the same with actual games for years without being attacked by anyone, which I’m guessing has everything to do with what’s socially acceptable to like, and what’s socially acceptable to hate.
