Splatoon's next Splatfest has something to do with the Earth's poles and campfires

Nintendo has announced the European and North American dates for Splatoon's next Splatfest.
The Splatfest will run in both regions next weekend: August 7-8 in North America and August 8-9 in Europe.
Since I don't play the game, I have no idea what the tweet from Nintendo of America means, but surely Splatoon players do.
Over in Europe, players are being asked whether they would prefer the Splatfest to be held in the North or South Pole. That, I comprehend.
