Relic talks Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, hands out screens

warhammerspacemarine

Relic's Raphael van Lierop has said Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, is nothing like "other" space marine games.

This is because Games Workshop's 40K universe pre-dates all other games with hulking marines in space, supposedly.

Granted, Dune came out in the 60s and had space marines, but they were nothing like the big fellas in WH40K, nor are they like the Colonial Marines from the 1986 film Aliens. They do however, pre-date the marines in DOOM, and Lierop says as much in the video.

The setting made popular through tabletop games, is around 23 years of age (1987), and the third-person actioner is a "fresh take" on the universe, Lierop told Gamespot in a video interview - making this the first non-strategy, non-MMO, and non-FPS game for the series.

It's been a long time coming, that's for sure, but finally it's coming early next year.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine is to be made available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. The PC version will use Steamworks for as its DRM instead of GFWL (thanks, Blue).

We also have some new screens of the game for you below.

Waaagh!
