PlanetSide 2's Battle Island update will add 96-player maps

PlanetSide 2 developer Sony Online Entertainment has detailed its upcoming 'Battle Island' update, which offers single maps for 96-player skirmishes away from the open world of Auraxis. The first island - dubbed 'Nexus' - has been previewed by the studio.
You can see Nexus in action above. You can see that while it's smaller than the size of the MMO's world at large, it's still big enough for large tank battles and vehicle combat. Matches on Nexus and other battle islands will consist of 48-a-side battles.
