LittleBigPlanet educational DLC incoming

SCE Europe senior vice president Ray Maguire has outed an upcoming LittleBigPlanet content pack for use in the classroom.

“We are going to be creating teacher packs where class teachers with a specialist subject knowledge in science, technology, engineering and maths – the stem subjects – create ‘levels’ with content aligned to their specific age range," Maguire told MCV.

Maguire outlined plans for scholastic content to be managed entirely from within LittleBigPlanet, and suggested the game could even be used to teach languages, thanks to the ability to save audio and text.

Sony also has broader plans for expanding into education.

"Games consoles don’t just play games, they are sophisticated media players,” Maguire pointed out.

“There is no reason why you can’t play open standard educational content such as videos, audio and web-based lessons through a games console like the PlayStation."

Some schools in the UK are already using PSP consoles, and Maguire expressed hope that Sony can continue collaborating with educationalists in order to deliver compelling and worthwhile academic material.

Thanks, 1UP.
