GRID's Stadia Version Has a 40-Car Mode That "Just Isn't Possible" On Other Platforms

The power of the cloud?

Google's cloudbound streaming service Stadia isn't too far off, and some new details are coming out about what it'll be bringing to the table. For the racing fans, it seems like a new mode for GRID will have an impressive scale that's exclusive to the game-streaming Stadia, pitting 40 drivers against each other.

In a new interview with Wccftech, GRID's development director Mark Green expanded on the port process for GRID and the Stadia's upcoming launch.

"Perhaps the area with the biggest difference was the streaming, but also the ability of Stadia to talk to other Stadia so quickly transforms some ideas around multiplayer," Green says. "For example, developing a whole new mode for GRID Stadia which has 40 cars on track at the same time, something that just isn't possible with other hardware."

Green doesn't expand further on why other platforms, even PC, wouldn't be able to handle this mode. It's possible Stadia's communication between other Stadia instances could provide a stream of information others can't match, but we'll see once the Google service is live.

While Google's service goes live on November 19, Stadia will have 12 games at launch, with only one exclusive. While more games are scheduled to arrive over the course of the year, including GRID and others like Borderlands 3, they'll still cost you the full price of a game.

We'll see how Google's foray into cloud gaming pans out over the coming weeks, as early adopters start to test out the service. In the meantime, if you're curious about the rollout of Stadia's game lineup, check out our guide to all things Google Stadia.
