Comcast and EA team up for Xfinity Games streaming service

Comcast is launching a streaming games incentive which will allow users to player various titles on their television without additional equipment required. EA is on board.

Those who are Xfinity customers through Comcast only need a smartphone or tablet in order to play the games on offer.

According to Comcast's Brian Witkowski, the service works much like PlayStation Now or OnLive.

"There's no new hardware required, there's no downloads either on the set-top box or on the mobile device, it's instantaneous, as minimal steps to log in as possible, and there's no physical controllers," Witkowski told Polygon.

"Some of the sports titles are 720p and some of the other casual games are not natively 720p but they still look great on a 55-inch flatscreen television."

Note that streaming the games will count toward any data cap you have enabled on your account.

EA titles included are:

  • EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 13
  • NBA Jam on Fire Edition
  • Peggle Nights
  • Plants VS. Zombies
  • eal Racing 2
  • Word Whomp Underground
  • World of Goo

Customers can sign up for the Xfinity Games beta today and more information is available through the official website.
