Sony Bend director says “never say never” in wake of Days Gone 2 cancellation reports

Over the weekend, it was reported that Sony Bend, the developers of Days Gone, pitched a sequel to Sony – but the publisher turned down a potential Days Gone 2 before development began.

Instead of Days Gone 2, according to a Bloomberg report, Sony Bend was tasked with producing a new Uncharted title, under supervision from Naughty Dog.

Seemingly in response to these claims, though, Days Gone director, Jeff Ross, took part in an interview with fellow Sony veteran David Jaffe. The Twisted Metal and original God of War designer directed the conversation with Ross towards the idea that Sony is maligning smaller games and shifting focus to the West.

Ross simply responded, "Never say never to anything, it's just... maybe not right now." So if you were mourning the loss of a potential Days Gone sequel, you can maybe take some solace in the idea that the series has not been lost forever.

The fallout from Sony's decision not to allow Sony Bend to continue working on the series in the immediate future has not been insignificant.

Apparently, as per the same Bloomberg report, Sony assigned a group from the studio to develop the new Uncharted game supervised by Naughty Dog whilst a second team from Sony Bend was then partnered up with Naughty Dog to work on a multiplayer game.

Those decisions caused a storm within Bend, and led to a small-scale exodus at the studio as many staffers feared they'd simply be folded into Naughty Dog at some stage in the future.

Days Gone launched to mixed critical acclaim but seems to have found a soft spot in the heart of the gaming audience at large. Back when it launched in 2019, VG247 called its story “very dumb”.

If you're eager to try it now, you can download it on PS5, where it runs at 60fps at a dynamic 4K resolution. Days Gone is also coming to PC this spring and is one of the games available through PlayStation Plus this month.
