Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 introduces the first faction: the Pioneers

The first faction reveal for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is here, and it's the Pioneers.

Factions in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 are a group of united vampires, and not to be confused with clans.

In the game, five factions are contending for control over Seattle. Each group has its own characteristics, history, and of course, motivations.

You will be choosing which of the factions to join in the game. Just remember, they may not all get along very well.

Back to the Pioneers, this group was the first to settle in Seattle. It is led by the "longest reining prince" in the area, Lou Grand.

While they were the first to assert their dominance over the city, this rule has weakened considerably. While various members of different clans are united in this faction, all share the same dream: to rule the city again.

Here's more about the faction culled from the press release:

Who they are

  • The Pioneers are passionate and have a strong independent spirit, but they refuse to identify with the hot-headed Anarchs. While the Pioneers dream of ruling the city again, they have been forced to accept another’s rules. In exchange, the remaining Pioneers have been allowed to keep control over some minor parts of Seattle.

Defining Characteristics

  • Past Glories – Having built the city, many of Lou’s vampires are in love with their memories of what Seattle once was. Having known each other for a long time, they are intensely loyal. The Pioneers fight tooth and nail to preserve whatever remains of their old world - and of one another.
  • The Insider’s Club – The Pioneers held Seattle for the longest part of the city’s existence. That’s almost unheard of on the West Coast. Having lost so much in the last 20 years, they have become skeptical of the changing world, including any fledgling looking to join.
  • Old Money – There’s a lot of wealth in ruling a city for more than a century. The money of the Pioneers would earn a lot of influence almost anywhere in the world. In the modern boomtown of Seattle, though, all it seems to afford is a more comfortable slide into irrelevance.

More factions will be revealed leading up to the game's release.

Bloodlines 2 will have five, playable full-blood clans at launch, as well as the Thinbloods. You start off in the game as the latter. More clans will be released as free DLC.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is out in March for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
