Mortal Kombat 11 mod frees the camera and lets you explore stages from unusual perspectives

The PC version of Mortal Kombat 11 is identical to the one on consoles, with more major difference: the ability to poke around with the help of mods.

More specifically, mods that let you control the game's camera. That's exactly what modder DennisNetwork is currently working on for Mortal Kombat 11.

In a series of videos, the modder gives a rare look at the game's stage decorations, fatal blows, and plenty more you're not supposed to see. The scenes that play out appear immaculately detailed when viewed from a side-on perspective, but the illusion breaks a bit when you peer behind the curtain.

For static stages like Shang Tsung's Island Ruins, this is harder to demonstrate since barely anything changes in the scene. For the more elaborately animated ones, however, such as the Cyber Lin Kuei Assembly, you can see how certain parts are faked, or obscured from vision.

My favourite is the video below showing all fatal blows from the side angle. Fatal blows are cinematic moments in-game, and traditionally operate under different rules from the main fight for cinematic purposes.

Watching them from the side reveals a lot of the trickery that goes on in stage setup, camera, lights, and even kombatant positions within the levels, all to create these visceral moments.

The mod is not yet available to download publicly, but DennisNetwork says they're working on it.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
