Monster Hunter World PC was delayed because it’s the team’s first PC game and wanted to get it right

Capcom has explained why the PC version of Monster Hunter World will be lagging a few months behind consoles.

Monster Hunter World is just a couple of weeks away from release on PS4, and Xbox One. Fans always knew the PC version would be a bit late, given that the publisher hadn’t mentioned it in the initial release date announced.

However, no one was ready to hear that it’ll be a good seven months or more before we get to play the game on PC. Game producer Ryozo Tsujimoto hears these concerns, but he also makes some good points about Capcom made this decision.

“For the main Monster Hunter game, this is our first PC title and it’s something we want to make sure we get right,” Tsujimoto told GamesRadar, as reported by PCGamer.

“So rather than have it taking up resources during the console development and not it not being able to have our full attention on it. We want to get console out the door and then we’re going to take some extra time and try and get the PC version as good as possible.”

Tsujimoto also pointed out that even when you exclude the work needed to make the PC port run well, there’s also the matter of matchmaking and other services provided by PSN, and Xbox Live that Capcom will need to have a replacement for on PC. This means building a new matchmaking system and figuring out things the Monster Hunter team hadn’t tried before.

“So, hopefully, PC users won’t mind waiting a little bit longer for us to bring you a really great optimised PC experience,” he added.

If you’re looking to dip your toes into the first Monster Hunter home console game in years, Capcom is hosting another beta next weekend. It takes place January 19-22, and will only be available on PS4.

Monster Hunter World is out January 26 on PS4, and Xbox One.
