Deadline’s reporting that Chronicle director Josh Trank has signed on to direct the Shadow of the Colossus film from Sony Pictures, after requesting the position. The report states writers are currently being interviewed. Trank, is apparently a very busy man: he’s supposedly discussing developing Fantastic Four for Fox and Spider-Man spinoff Venom for Sony Pictures, and is also reported to be working with Warner Bros on an adaptation of Red Star, so who knows how long it will be before SotC is released. A movie based on the Team ICO masterpiece has been in the pipeline Joystiq.

Sony has refused to clarify if The Last Guardian is to make an appearance at E3 next month.

Siliconera has posted a translation of part of the official guide to Shadow of the Colossus, previously available in Japanese only. Members of Team Ico discuss designing the game’s titular enemies, fitting the world together around them, nailing down the game’s distinctive aesthetic, and more. It’s well worth a read if you’re keen on Team Ico’s output; the studio’s third release, The Last Guardian, still has no release date.

Responding to rumours of his resignation from Sony, Team Ico leader Fumito Ueda has tweeted a reassurance that he’s still working on the studio’s long-delayed new release.

“There’s no need to worry, as The Last Guardian is still in production,” he said, according to Andriasang‘s translation.

According to sources close to Eurogamer, Team Ico’s Fumito Ueda is quitting Sony, and will finish up work on The Last Guardian in a “freelance capacity.”

Lo and behold, Game Informer‘s posted a brand new preview of The Last Guardian, just to calm fan nerves down because we all haven’t seem it in a while. Except it actually isn’t new: the preview is actually taken from when the game was shown to press at TGS last year for the magazine’s November issue in 2010, but has only gone online now on its website.

The Last Guardian, previously due for a holiday release this year, was delayed to a TBC new date by Sony back in April. Team ICO fans will have the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection to keep going on from tomorrow in Europe.

IGN’s gone up with at least more than 15 minutes worth of footage from the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. There’s the first five minutes of ICO, more than ten minutes worth from the opening of Colossus and more. They look utterly stunning, so go watch them after the break. Viz Media has said it’s to publish a novel based on ICO from author Miyuki Miyabe. Subtitled Castle in the Mist, the book will be published in the US on August 16 for $14.99. Pre-orders are been taken right now from Viz’s website. The novel’s launch comes before the HD re-release of the game itself in September for PS3.
