Madden’s 20th anniversary won’t be a “ordinary year”, says Moore
Peter Moore has promised that 2009, the 20th anniversary year for EA’s $2 billion Madden franchise, won’t be an “ordinary Madden year”, and that the game we’re going to get next year will be something special.
“Oh, you bet,” he said, when asked if Madden 09 will be “above and beyond” the normal annual update. “On so many levels. I’m going to be out at Tiburon next week checking on the progress, and I look forward to doing that. As you can imagine, we have all sorts of plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of this franchise, and we’ll start giving you a taste of what we’ve got in the next few months as they firm up. But yeah, this won’t be an ordinary Madden year, if such a thing exists.”
His comments come after EA Sports today confirmed a lengthening of its deal with the NFL.

EA ties up NFL license until 2013
Says so here. Peter Moore will be excited.
There are two deals involved here, one for the NFL itself and one for the NFL’s players, which “provide EA continued rights to NFL teams, stadiums and players for its critically-acclaimed and best-selling football videogames through the end of the 2012 season, which culminates in February 2013.”
“We are excited about the opportunity to extend and expand our relationships with the NFL and NFL PLAYERS,” said Peter Moore, President of EA Sports.
See. Told you he would be.

Madden producer David Ortiz quits EA Tiberon
According to this, lead producer David Ortiz has quit Madden developer EA Tiberon, citing family reasons. The article quotes “inside sources”, however that reckon Ortiz was becoming frustrated with the studio’s internal machinations.
“David’s been a valuable part of our team at EA Tiburon, and we wish him the best,” said EA in a statement. “Dale Jackson, an EA veteran for more than a decade, continues to lead the Madden NFL development team.”
EA Tiburon producer Phil Frazier will take over Ortiz’s role, which was producing the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Madden.
