EA's NFL Monopoly class-action lawsuit checks being sent

Checks are in the mail to the claimants in Electronic Arts' football monopoly class-action lawsuit, in which the company settled out of court to pay $27 million in lawyers fees and payouts to users. To users who submitted their claim prior to May 15th these year, $20 were awarded for every copy of Madden or NCAA Football they bought last generation and another $5 for each copy of Madden purchased on a current gen system.

The initial settlement payout was going to be much lower, however only a third of the expected number of claimants ever submitted for the payments. The suit, titled Pecover v. Electronics Arts was filed back in 2008 and was finally resolved out of court in June last year. It alleged that by securing an exclusive license to the NFL as Sega was exiting the football game market, Electronic Arts had established a monopoly.

EA's exclusive NFL license expires this year, so look out for that other developers.

Thanks, Polygon.
