FIFA Ultimate Team (and friends) worth $650 million a year

NHL, Madden and FIFA Ultimate Team won't be going anywhere.

Ultimate Team accounts for about half of EA's total "extra content" revenue each year, CFO Blake Jorgensen said at a Morgan Stanley investor conference this week.

As reported by GamesIndustry, Jorgensen said this sector is worth $1.3 billion a year, meaning the fantasy league card trading mode brings in about $650 million across all three franchises.

That's on top of revenue from sales of the base games, and represents about 30% of EA's digital revenue in total. It's the same worth as EA's entire (very successful) mobile business, too.

Jorgensen said extra content, which also includes DLC like seasons passes and map packs, is the most important sector of EA's digital business - but it's clearly dominated by Ultimate Team. Ultimate Team has been growing fast, with EA regularly reporting substantial double digit year-on-year growth during financials.
