FIFA franchise has been played for 34,000 years, and other startling EA facts

EA has released a stack of facts and figures pertaining to its most popular games and franchises, many of which are startling and probably explain recent outbreaks of vitamin D deficiency.

According to a new infographic, Origin recorded 350 million play sessions in the last quarter of 2013, and that December 26 was the most popular day.

Madden NFL 25 had its most successful day to date on New Year's Eve - really, guys? You couldn't, like, go outside? - with 2.8 million games. That's 10,000 NFL seasons.

Meanwhile, Battlefield 4 players have logged over 8 million hours of flight since the shooter's October launch, in which time they could have earned 90,000 pilot's licenses.

The FIFA franchise as a whole has totted up 18 billion minutes of play time, which by my calculations is over 34,000 years. EA compared it to the 11,430 minutes - just over seven days - of Premier League matches in the same period.

Need for Speed: Rivals players have managed to drive over 51 million km, while NHL 14 players have totted up 100 million games.

On to mobile and digital now: Real Racing 3 players ran 1.3 billion races between October and December, with Christmas Day being the most popular.

Mobile phenomenon The Simpsons: Tapped Out had a major success with its Treehouse of Horror update, pulling in 19.4 million players.

In Plants vs Zombies 2, 53.4 billion plants have been sown, adding up to more than 500 acres or three and a half New York cities.
