ESL will be the official backer of Halo eSports league

343 Industries and Microsoft have announced a deal with ESL and Twitch to bring the Halo franchise into the forefront of eSports.

Not that Halo Championships haven't been held before, but the events will now have more prominence.

A new league, the Halo Championship Series, will kick off with an invitation-only the Halo: The Master Chief Collection Launch Invitational. It will be held on November 8.

As previously reported, the invitational will feature 32 of “the biggest names in eSports” vying for $50,000 in prizes by competing in Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer matches.

The competition takes place at ESL’s Southern California headquarters, and all coverage will be streamed at Twitch.tv/Halo.
