Alan Wake European release pushed forward to May 14

Microsoft’s just pushed forward the release date of Alan Wake to May 14.
The Remedy thriller was previously down for a May 21 release in the UK and Europe, with a US launch three days before that on May 18. Both the American release date and Japanese launch of May 27 remains the same.
The fact the release date has now come early is more than a certification that the game is coming this year and is definitely finished: Remedy’s Matias Myllyrine said the game has been done since June last year, with the studio working on polishing the game since.
The game was revealed five years ago at E3 2005 for next-gen consoles and PC”, before being revealed a year later as a 360/PC exclusive.
Microsoft confirmed at X10 back in February that the PC version has since been canned, opting for the 360 version as the only available SKU.
We interviewed Remedy’s Oskari Hakkinen back in February about the game. Read about it here.

ALAN WAKE STEPS INTO THE LIGHT EARLY IN EUROPE
The psychological action thriller, exclusive to Xbox 360, will be in stores across Europe from 14th May
LONDON – 7 April 2010 – Microsoft is delighted to announce that Alan Wake will be hitting stores across Europe on Friday 14th May – a full week ahead of its original release date.
“Fans in the UK have been crying out to get their hands on Alan Wake since it was first announced and we’re thrilled to be able to deliver it to them early,” said Stephen McGill, Director, Xbox & Entertainment, Microsoft UK.
In this long-awaited title, exclusive to Xbox 360, players assume the role of Alan Wake, a best-selling crime writer suffering from writer’s block, who escapes to a small town only to experience the mysterious disappearance of his wife. An intense psychological thriller from Remedy, the creators of Max Payne, Alan Wake looks to raise the bar for future games, creating a true cinematic experience.
Rated BBFC 15, Alan Wake will be available for an estimated retail price of £49.99.

Seems everyone’s afraid of Red Dead Redemption. Capcom are going to be pissed after they moved Lost Planet 2 out of the way a few weeks back – now it coincides with Alan again.

I really doubt Capcom care much for this game, between LP2 and Red Dead, Alan Wake is going to get flattened.

I’m not so sure. A lot of the buzz surrounding Lost Planet appears to have dissipated. It might come back as it gets closer to release, but it seems like ages since the demo came out – they might’ve shot their bolt too early.

They also have a new, multiplayer demo about though. They’ll no doubt release that to the public just before the games release.
And knowing the 360 crowd, they’d probably take a multiplayer/coop game over an SP-only one anyday. As for ‘buzz’, well i cant really say i’m seeing alot of Alan Wake hype about. For an IP MS actually owns it would appear as if they’re being rather tame with the marketing unlike Capcom who are releasing several LP2 videos weekly it seems.

Hmm…between the 3 I have to say Alan wake and Red dead are tied for me and LP2 isn’t even on my radar, but that’s just me personally.
At least now my wallet won’t be hurting as much between this, red dead and POP.

Alan Wake is almost on my must buy list.
Usually I would have bought it without a second thought but I’m currently cutting back on video games in order to have more money and more time devoted to college.
If the reviews are good for Alan Wake and it can prove itself to be more than a one trick/one location pony i’ll stump up the cash for it.

Smart move, so many things were releasing in the original week that it was bound to get painful.

@6 – I’ve been doing the same thing. I just signed up to lovefilm.com to start renting games. I own too many games that I’ve played only once or that i’ve bought purely out of “franchise loyalty”

This gen I find myself more and more drawn away from scripted/sp game experiences. This doesn’t apeal to me one bit.

meh.
I wouldn’t even play a game like old Silent Hill if it came out these days, let alone this.
