Microsoft denies Xbox One will run Windows 8 apps

Microsoft has quashed rumours that the Xbox One will be able to run all Windows 8 apps, in contradiction to information posted by Dell earlier today.

Update: Microsoft provided Eurogamer with a statement denying the news.

"The suggestion that all Windows 8 apps run on Xbox One is not accurate," a representative said.

Original story: Remember that old Xbox One rumour that suggested we might be able to run Windows 8 apps on the console? Well, according to the console's description on Dell.com, it might actually be true.

The Xbox One website listing and description on Dell.com has a part that mentions Windows 8.

The descriptor reads, "Consider the game officially changed. With all your favourite Windows 8 apps able to be run on and synced to your Xbox One, now your phone, desktop, tablet and TV can all give you a unified web and entertainment experience."

The initial rumour was started way back in April, before the console's reveal. It suggested that Xbox One's operating system will share some similarities with Windows 8 and would allow you to use your Windows 8 apps on it.

Microsoft did confirm that the console will be running multiple OS's at the same time, one of which will be based on Windows 8. Though the firm mentioned nothing about Windows 8 apps specifically.

Would this be a game changer in the next-gen console war? Let us know what you think below.
