Wii not discontinued outside Japan

The Wii has not been discontinued in Europe and North America; this week's discontinuation announcement applies only to Japan.

Speaking to Gamespot, a Nintendo of America representative confirmed that other territories are unaffected by the news.

"The announcement that the Wii console has been discontinued is specific to Japan. There is no change in the status of Wii in the United States, and it is available for purchase this holiday season," the spokesperson said.

The Wii is eight years old and has sold over $100 million units worldwide.
