Reported comments on Steam will be moderated starting next week

Valve will start moderating comments flagged on Steam starting next week.

Comments reported by users on Steam will be moderated by an internal teams beginning September 25.

The company said it is taking more interest in moderation due to requests from developers. Reported posts on all Steam game hubs will be reviewed. Developers can opt out of having their community pages moderated.

"In the past, we've been hesitant to get involved in the moderation of individual game discussions," reads the notice on Steam. " We didn't want to step on the toes of game developers that want to have their own style of communication with players and their own set of guidelines for behavior."

"But over time, we've been hearing from more and more game developers that would actually prefer for us to take a more active role in discussion boards, at least to the extent of handling posts that are reported by other players. If you do already have your own moderation staff, or want complete control over the reported content in your hub, you can opt out of this service."

Posts reported by a Steam users will be put in a queue for the moderation team to review. Valve will then remove anything that violates its Community Guidelines. The team will not "actively peruse" community discussions or posting in threads. It will only communicate with users "when necessary when issuing a warning or ban for reported content."
