StarCraft 2 F2P - the "math just isn't there," says Morhaime

StarCraft 2 or its multiplayer won't be going free-to-play anytime soon. According to Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime, the "math just isn't there."

Speaking with PCGamesN at a recent IPL event, Morhaime called questions on the game going F2P "frustrating."

“It’s a little frustrating the question keeps coming up because the math just isn’t there to support the assumptions behind that argument," he said. "StarCaft 2 has the most value of any entertainment property out there. I mean, jeez, if you bought it during Black Friday, it was 50% off, 20 bucks. Compare that to the price of your so-called free-to-play games. Twenty dollars and you can play it practically forever.

“There are a lot of people who have purchased StarCraft and our other games, and they know what the value is.”

Morhaime's comments suggest the firm looked into such a conversion, a move mentioned by lead designer Dustin Browder back in September, and found the idea lacking.
