Rock Band's final DLC track released

Don McLean's American Pie has arrived in the Rock Band store, marking the end of an era - specifically, the era in which Harmonix released new content for its ground-breaking series of co-op music games.

Harmonix has been adding new music to Rock Band for more than five years now, not only through DLC but also via through three core games and spin-offs Rock Band Blitz, Lego Rock Band, Green Day: Rock Band, Rock Band: The Beatles, Rock Band Unplugged and the shuttered Rock Band mobile.

All up, the Rock Band library now features over 1,400 artists and more than 4,000 songs. It has never failed to update for 281 consecutive weeks, and Harmonix has sold over 130 million downloadable tracks since November 2007.

American Pie spent four weeks as number one on release in 1971. Although Harmonix will continue to support Rock Band with Rock Band Network releases and technical support, this is the very last track added to the Rock Band store.

American Pie drops today in the US and with local console network updates in Europe and beyond. It will set you back $2/£1.20 UK/€1.50/160 MS Points/200 Wii Points.

Rock Band has sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Goodbye, friends, we'll miss you - although we're very excited to see what Harmonix does next.
