Nintendo World 2011 Day 1 conference report: Japanese 3DS launch line-up confirmed, battery life at 3-8 hours, more

3ds

The 3DS-centric Nintendo World 2011's wrapped up its first day in Tokyo, where some news heavy stuff has dropped.

Launch line-up for Japan announced

Famitsu (via Kotaku) is carrying the launch line-up for the Japanese launch of 3DS. There's going to be eight titles at release.

The pricing for the games vary from ¥4,800 as the cheapest to ¥6,090 as the most expensive. The price for 3DS titles was expected to be around ¥5,800. Pricier games were expected to be at ¥6,800.

The list is also two games short then what was previously rumoured, which means the final two will be announced at the event tomorrow or this is it.

Full list is below, as well as prices.

  • Nintendogs + Cats (¥4,800)
  • Winning Eleven Soccer 3D (¥5,800)
  • Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (¥4,800)
  • Samurai Warriors Chronicle (¥6,090)
  • Puzzle Bobble 3D (¥4,980)
  • Ridge Racer 3D (¥6,090)
  • Battle of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D (¥5,040)
  • Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles (¥5,980)

Battery life confirmed at 3-8 hours, charging takes 3.5 hours

Nintendo's released a full spec list of 3DS on its official website, confirming in the process the length of time for its battery. For its battery to be fully charged, it'll takes three-and-a-half hours.

For battery life, it'll last somewhere between three and five hours if you play a 3DS game and if backlighting's been turned down, although that gets extended to between five and eight hours if playing old DS software.

Battery life will, obviously, take a hit when the backlighting is turned up.

Back in September, when 3DS's Japanese date of February 26 was announced, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said it was expected the battery would be charged a lot more frequently then current DS SKUs on the market.

Thanks, Kotaku.

Ocarina of Time missing 3DS launch

Nintendo may not be releasing its 3D handheld version of Ocarina of Time, but the game was still on-hand today at the firm's event in Japan. Some extra details were dropped on the game as well, like a tap icon at the bottom of the game screen which can be used to switch views.

When this button is tapped, players can "physically move" their 3DS to look around, allowing them to see what's behind them.

Three save files of the game where shown as well: one running around a village at the start of the game, another in the first dungeon, and one that according to NWR "has not yet been confirmed".

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is due out this spring in Japan, with dates outside the country to be announced. Andriasang has an impressions piece of the game up on its site, and Famitsu has tons of screens here.

Tetris Axis, other game announcements

Nintendo also announced a few other games hitting 3DS later in the year, which include:

  • A Strategy RPG Project from Imageepoch in 2012
  • Haku Ouki 3D from Idea Factory - 2011
  • Karasu 3D from Milestone - Summer 2011
  • Tetris Axis from Hudson -Summer 2011
  • Daisenryaku from SystemSoft Alpha - Summer 2011

Tomorrow will see panels of Super Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil. We'll update this throughout the afternoon with more details when we get it. You can check out pictures of the stage through here. Andriasang also has a gallery up of the main event, here.
