Halo Wars 2 won't have cross-platform play

Halo Wars 2 will be coming to both Windows 10 PC and Xbox One, but in an interview with Eurogamer, 343 Industries studio head Dan Ayoub confirmed that the title wouldn't feature cross-platform play.

"Cross-play is something we were looking at early on in development," said Ayoub. "We've been in development since 2014. But as we looked at our timing and our design decisions, we focused on some different things that basically became Xbox Play Anywhere."

As the different platforms use different control schemes, it's the right decision for now.

That being said, mouse and keyboard support for the Xbox One is months away according to Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, but it won't have any bearing on 343's plans.

"Cross-play is something we're excited about potentially down the line," Ayoub stated. "and we're looking at that for the franchise, but in the Halo Wars 2 timeframe, we're focusing on Play Anywhere."
