GTA 5 most played new release of 2013, according to Raptr

Grand Theft Auto 5 took out top honours in Raptr's annual survey of gamer activity throughout the year.

Raptr draws its data from PC and Xbox 360 users who sign up to the service, so it's not necessarily a highly informative metric, but it does give a reasonable idea of trends in this demographic.

Based on gameplay hours in the 30 days after launch, GTA 5 on Xbox 360 was the most played game.

Call of Duty: Ghosts on Xbox 360 came in second place, but it's worth noting that the gap between GTA 5 and its next competitor is much, much greater than that between Ghosts and third place, Battlefield 4 PC, and fifth place, Dota 2 PC.

In terms of most played overall, as opposed to during the launch window, League of Legends was a clear winner on PC and Black Ops 2 was the Xbox 360 game of choice.

In the narrower world of new IP, New Zealand indie Path of Exile dominated. Indie Terraria, which hit Vita today, was the most played expansion, as it's 1.2 update for PC far and away beat Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm.

The life eating Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag took out the "no bathroom break" award for longest average play sessions at 3.14 hours.

An infographic showing off these stats and more is available on IGN.
