European Commission pushing for flat pricing across all EU territories

Flat pricing for digital across all European territories? We're listening.


The European Commission has proposed a Digital Single Market, which it believes will have benefits for consumers and retailers alike.

MCV reports the proposed scheme would bring flat, fixed pricing on digital goods to its 28 member nations. Digital distributors like Steam and the console networks would no longer vary pricing from region to region.

This has an obvious upside for consumers currently paying a mark up based on their country of residence but the European Commission said it will strengthen the digital market in general, which is good for everyone.

“Simplified and modern rules for online and digital cross-border purchases will encourage more businesses to sell online across borders and further develop digital markets such as games," a spokesperson said.
