DICE: No point to straight ports to Wii U

Battlefield developer DICE has been fooling around with the Wii U, but won't be porting existing games to the system.

"We always have all the new platforms. So, we've dabbled with [the Wii U] and looked what we can do with it, but there's no game planned," DICE's Patrick Lui told the Metro.

Liu said the Wii U's purported power jump over the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 makes it an attractive platform for easy ports, but he wants to do something more interesting with the tech.

"I'm a big fan of Nintendo myself, just looking at what they've done with the Wii and the Wii. We have to come up with something that really uses their controls," he said.

"And until we get that bright idea of what to do with the new controls I don't think there's any point in making another version that's just the same as everyone else."

Even if they did take the port route, Nintendo fans won't be seeing the studio's magnum opus.

"It probably wouldn't be Battlefield 3 anyway because the Wii U is so far out. It's not out yet," Liu concluded.
