Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls adds clans and communities

Diablo 3's first expansion, Reaper of Souls, will add two new social features to the dungeon crawler.

Clans and communities will help players find and communicate with each other, according to a Battle.net blog post.

Clans allow up to 120 players with similar schedules and goals to band together, enabling them to easily communicate with each other en masse. Clans are invite only, although players can request entry.

Anyone can create a clan, but players can only join one clan at once. Various search tools and filters have been implemented to help you find the right one, and clan managers will be able to indicate if they're looking for members.

Communities are intended to be larger and more casual than clans, and to encourage socialisation. Membership is "nearly unlimited" and you can join multiple communities.

Managers can make their communities public or private, and allow open membership or restrict it to moderator approval.

Both clans and communities spawn dedicated chat channels, and leaders will have access to and Officers chat.

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls launches as an add-on for Mac and PC on March 25. It's expected to roll out to consoles eventually, and will be bundled with the PS4 release, which is as yet undated.

Thanks, Polygon.
