Bungie wants to start another franchise by 2025
Bungie's five-year plan involves releasing another big game that isn't Destiny.
In an interview with IGN, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons talked about the developer's ambition to become more than just a single-game publisher.
According to Parsons, Bungie's plan is to turn into one of "best entertainment companies" in the world by 2025. To get there, Bungie will be relying on Destiny, but also plans to debut a big new franchise by that point.
"So, by 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace," said Parsons.
Going independent with Destiny was the first step towards this transformation, and Prasons says this move allows Bungie to build the Destiny "that we really believe in" and focus on it being a "single evolving world."
It's not at all surprising that Bungie's plans involve creating other games. The studio took on 100 million in funding from Chinese giant NetEase, so the assumption is that the team there is already working on something for NetEase.
Whatever that is has yet to be officially announced, of course, and it sounds like it may be a while yet before Bungie is ready to talk about it.
