All-you-can-eat streaming game subscriptions debut on the App Store

Apple has greenlit a streaming subscription games service from Big Fish games, the first of its kind on the App Store.

Bloomberg reports the subscription costs $4.99 a month, and grants access to "dozens of games" without the need to download individual titles. The fee will increase to $6.99 as more games are added.

Exclusive to iPad, the service requires a WiFi connection, as games are streamed directly from Big Fish. A free version grants players 30 minutes play each day, supported by advertising.

This is reportedly the first service of the kind to be offered on the App Store.

“It took longer than usual to be approved. They needed to be convinced there’s a reason to charge customers every month," Founder Paul Thelen said.

Apple began permitting subscriptions to individual games in February, and also allows in-app purchases under specific guidelines.

Big Fish is an independent casual games portal with a number of popular properties including Mystery Case Files and Drawn. The company hopes to launch an Android version of the service.
